Our team is proposing something that Moscow and Miami have not seen before. Our proposal consists of having an amusement park, an app and a full-on resort hotel with the addition of a conference and convention center. With the research we have been able to do, we can see that Moscow is very historic, cultural and known for its cold weather. Meanwhile, Miami is the complete opposite. We are proposing a resort type, of a hotel, where we can have convention centers that could have resorts accomodations for people, who want to take a vacation. The conference and convention center would benefit business workers, who could have meetings and it would attract owners to possibly host events in Russia and the USA. The app would help guests to find transportation around area, book reservations and have many more ideas we look forward to creating and presenting to you! Our amusement park would really be designed for famillies. It will help everyone to understand school subjects better and will be designed with the idea based on STEM knowledge. We hope this gives you an understanding of what we are going to design and plan for this project.

Our purpose

Quintessential united labs is pleased to submit this proposal for services to support Our innovation challenge in achieving its goals for improving tourism internationally. Although we are students from two very different countries, we are pleased and honored to be working together. The purpose or idea behind this project is what does catch people’s attention? Not only do we want to build an amusement park, but we also took into consideration our environment. Besides having an ordinary amusement park, we find it very crucial to combine fun with learning! This is the perfect way for us to combine the fundamentals of STEM. Throughout this proposal, we will go into more detail and elaborate on the best solution for tourism to increase internationally.

The Objective

We understand what needs must be addressed so here is what we are going to achieve.

·    Not only improve but set a new meaning for tourism in Moscow and Miami.

·    Provide something for all types of travelers. Whether it be a family, someone trying to relax, or a business client.

·    Educate our public and society about STEM, our future.

The Opportunity
This does not only give us the opportunity to make our economies better but it also could inspire other businesses or schools to improve their education on STEM.

Our Proposal

Our innovation challenge solution consists of many details. Our amusement park in Russia would be “cabin” themed due to the cold weather throughout the year and the amusement park in Miami would be tropical and beach-like due to its hot weather. Now, this is how we get peoples interest in wanting to go to very different places. Besides just having the two amusement parks, we also want to provide a resort that has accommodating conference and convention centers. Why you may ask? Well, if we provide both types of amenities then we will have all different types of clients/guests coming in. Families would come and bring their children to learn about what an important role STEM takes place in a place like an amusement park. For business inquires, perhaps business owners would like to host events like fundraisers and meetings due to the amazing amenities and interesting destination marketing the resorts offer! However, when we were thinking on how we could attract guests we thought that perhaps the amusement parks could have 2-3 “limited edition” rides at both destinations. Meaning for example, Russia would send over they are most popular rides to the US and people who answer the STEM related question correctly will be allowed to ride these “limited edition” rides. Throughout the park and resort, we also want to further educate people on STEM. Finally, our app would mostly help the guests have an easier experience throughout their stay. The app would talk about both countries and educate guests on how this big idea and creation came to be. The app would help guests find transportation around the area, book reservations, and have many more ideas we look forward to creating and presenting to you!

Executive Summary:

Our proposal consists of having an amusement park, an app, and a full-on resort hotel with the addition of a conference and convention center. With the research, we have done, we can see that Moscow is very historic, cultural, and known for its cold weather. Meanwhile, Miami is the complete opposite. Moscow and Miami have such diverse cultures and lifestyles. We are proposing a resort type of hotel, where we can have convention centers that could have resorts accommodations for people, who want to take a vacation. The conference and convention center would benefit business workers, who could have meetings and it would attract owners to possibly host events in Russia and the USA. The app would help guests find transportation around the area, book reservations, and have many more ideas we look forward to creating and presenting to you! Our amusement park would be designed for teens between the ages of 10-17. It will help everyone understand school subjects better and will be designed with the idea based on STEM knowledge. Besides what the guest see, we plan on implying STEM with the construction of the resort and app and talking about it on our app. Not only do we want to build an amusement park, but we also took into consideration our environment. Besides having an ordinary amusement park, we find it very crucial to combine fun with learning! This is the perfect way for us to combine the fundamentals of STEM. Our strongest selling points is that everyone truly benefits from our innovation. We have it all, people who travel for pleasure, leisure, and business. People would benefit because our resorts, amusement parks, and app would provide the needs such as accommodations, transportation, food and beverage, and attractions. The guests will also have an advantage of a “point system”.

Creativity and Innovation:

Our business concepts mission and goal is to offer a variety of options for everyone. Diversity is a complex concept that can be very challenging but we can assure you that our innovation has something for everyone. We are making sure quality customer service is exceptional for our guests. Our innovative business concept is unique because we are offering an amusement park, an app, and a full-on resort hotel with the addition of a conference and convention center. We are proposing a resort hotel, where we can have convention centers that could have resorts accommodations for all types of travelers. The conference and convention center would benefit business workers, who could have meetings and it would attract owners to possibly host events in Russia and the US. The travelers, who are interested in touring because of our “point-system”, would visit Moscow and Miami. Our point system would attract guests and potentially we would benefit from word-of-mouth, more details about this will be discussed throughout our plan. The app would help guests find transportation around the area, book reservations; tell you how long wait lines are, any deals available on site, etc. Our amusement park is unlike anything else, we want to be the change and make learning fun. Our customers or guests would not even notice how much the STEM principles are involved with our daily lives, we are here to show them and we plan to give them nothing but the absolute best. Another reason why our business is unique is that we consider the very different lifestyles and environments that Russia and the US have. Our amusement park in Russia would be “cabin” themed due to the cold weather throughout the year and the amusement park in Miami would be very tropical and beach-like due to its hot weather. Now, this is how we get peoples interest in wanting to go to very different places. Besides just having the two amusement parks, we want to also provide a resort that has accommodating conference and convention centers. Meaning for example, Russia would send over their most popular rides to the US and people who answer the STEM related question correctly will be allowed to ride these “limited edition” rides. Throughout the park and resort, we also want to further educate people on STEM. Finally, our app would mostly help the guests have an easier experience throughout their stay. Our facilities would also follow ADA (American Disability Act). We are making it a priority so everyone can enjoy themselves and learn!

Detailed description:

Our amusement park is called 'Quintessence'. It takes the territory of 70.000 square meters. It is a unique place that is supposed not only to increase the amount of the American visitors in Moscow  and vice versa ,but also rise the people’s interest in science and studying .The main  idea and feature is that when the visitors want to get to the attraction they have to solve the task or answer a theme question due to the attraction they want to ride (calculate centripetal acceleration or the speed of gravity). You enter the park through the turnstiles attaching a ticket and you enter every attraction without paying for it every time , because it is included in price. The general design of the park is futuristic ,in light - white ,silver colors ,though some areas have bright colors . There are no wooden materials to emphasize the futurism , the majority of the infrastructure is made of glass, marble ,plastic ,still, rubber. The entrance to the park  looks like a huge rocket, glowing with stars at night.

Before visiting the attractions visitors are offered to attend lections in lecture hall for better solving of tasks, or you can just go to the cinema and watch a scientific movie .The park is divided into several areas according to the subject of the attractions . These areas are : physics area that consists of such attractions as Ferris Wheel that is supposed to be the highest in Moscow, roller coaster that looks like a gigantic atom and mirror maze  ; maths area that consists of such attractions as pendulum , free fall  and centrifuge ; chemistry area where labs of experiments  where visitors can draw on walls in dark room with neon paintings, try to take photographs using neon as well and visit the room with walls made of slime), neon roller coaster, Helium room and Chamber of Horror full of surprises ; biological area where the visitors have an opportunity to admire rare plants from all over the world in botanical garden , wander around the maze meeting different characters and answering interesting questions, feel the adrenaline on the Cobra slide ; and kids' area (for children from 3 to 10 years) enclosed from the other areas , children can be left here under the supervision of special people , this area has several trampolines of different types ,kids' room that makes you feel like inside the molecule, merry-go-round  and DNA slide . These areas are connected with long paths surrounded by unusual street lamps that look like different heavenly bodies , mirror fences , benches in the form of futuristic cars, starships, airplanes, submarines. There are signs that show the ways to different areas .

Our park is rich with cafes for every taste , moreover , there is a restaurant of molecular kitchen  where the visitors can try themselves in cooking the meals . The park also has lots of vending machines. There are souvenir shops that sell a variety of things according to the style of park - clothes, crockery, trinkets, toys etc. A long slow river flows along the park, so if you want to observe the territory of the park and enjoy the surrounding views , you can just take a boat and leisurely make a circle around the park, there are four piers along the river where the boats can be left. Our amusement park is going to be a pleasant place for every visitor, that’s why there is a spa complex where those who are not interested in getting exiting emotions can just relax, unwind and get the portion of vitamins taking mud baths ( there are chemistry formulas of H2S,Fe(HS)J,CaCo3 as well), salt baths ( MgCl2, NaCl, CaCl2,), drinking delicious oxygen cocktails. The huge swimming pool is located in park, what is the advantage is that it’s divided into two parts - one inside (with room temperature) and another - outside (with hot water). There is also a relaxation area that’s made to let visitors take a rest, lie in hammocks ,ottomans, deck-chairs and listen to the calming sounds. We also have designed an app for our resort. Our app would mostly help the guests have an easier experience throughout their stay. The app would talk about both countries and educate guests on how this big idea and creation came to be. The app would help guests find transportation around the area, book reservations, and have many more ideas we look forward to creating and presenting to you!

Here is a plan of our park and the app model.

The role of STEM:

The scientific amusement park is a brand new idea in modern world. Today everyone wants to improve his or her knowledge is science and technology. And our park is the perfect way to do it. First of all, it is the way to educate yourself.  The education consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part of education consists of a listening to the lecture on the natural and exact sciences. Visitors will be clearly explained principles of working of these sciences and they we be shown the technological part of every attraction: how it works, from what it is made, how it was constructed. After that goes the practical part. If the visitor wants to take a ride on any of the attractions he or she should answer a theme question based on the area and construction of the attraction. We have chosen 4 areas for our park: Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. These all are the STEM disciplines. Each requires a certain knowledge. Our project will help people from very early age to study STEM disciples. As it was said the innovative idea of our park is that the entering on almost all objects ( not including cinema, food court and spa) requires solving a problem connected with STEM.  It would make the visitors motivated in studying and memorizing information. What is more, our park would be made with ecological-friendly materials such as plastic, steel, glass, rubber and etc. Besides, there would be many plants such as trees and bushes on the territory of park and attractions “botanical garden” and “maze” in biological zone. We want to build not only an amusement park, but we also took into consideration our environment. We find it very crucial to combine fun with learning! This is the perfect way for us to combine the fundamentals of STEM. Our strongest selling points is that everyone truly benefits from our innovation. There is no analogue in the world and people will be really interested in visiting our park.

Marketing Strategy:

To start our Quintessential Business, we are proposing a simple setup that would provide profit within the first 3-4 years of our resort/amusement park open. First, we will cover the key fundamentals we need for our resort. We are considering all the key elements we must take into consideration needed for our marketing plan to be successful!

Determine the best location: Location is one of our vital factors and the most important critical success factor. In the right location, where competitors are not fulfilling all customer needs, our resort will thrive. However, in a neighborhood that has heavy competition from existing hotels, success may not be so forthcoming. This is why we have chosen a place with not much competition to our resort and amusement park. Welcome to Doral, located in Miami, FL. Doral is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is thirteen miles from Downtown Miami. We propose the size of our park to be 70.000 square meters is both locations. As for location in Moscow, we wanted to place it in the large park, called V.D.N.H. (it is located in the outskirts of Moscow and is popular with tourists)

Planning finance: Our Company will build a resort from scratch, meaning we will need millions of dollars to invest. We do not have this money so we will need to seek bank loans and/or angel investment in our resort. We have a rough financial estimate that we will need $15-20 million US dollars, which is 847500000.00 Russian Ruble.

Exceptional Service: Quintessential United Labs finds this a huge critical success factor. We promise to succeed by ensuring the staff is knowledgeable, courteous and capable of resolving any conflicts that arise. Providing quality service also entails remembering the names and preferences of repeat visitors and giving advice about attractions and surroundings.

Smart Pricing: We have set a smart pricing strategy that will increase our resort occupancy. Determine room rates based on costs and market research. Pricing factors include:

-- Staffing costs
-- Room category
-- Time and length of stay
-- Maintenance costs
-- Competitor pricing

Be Unique: There are two fundamental ways to differentiate and gain a competitive edge: be better and be different. Besides just having the two amusement parks, we want to also provide a resort that has accommodating conference and convention centers. Why you may ask? Well, if we provide both types of amenities then we will have all different types of clients/guests coming in. Families would come and bring their children to learn about what an important role STEM takes place in a place like an amusement park. What makes is unique is we offer something for everyone.

Employee satisfaction: By concentrating on employee satisfaction as well as customer service, our resort can increase the likelihood that employees are happy and, in turn, provide excellent customer service.

Our Marketing Plan: The goal for our marketing plan is to ensure long-term success. Employ an integrated strategy that will reach your target market segments. Utilize marketing, public relations, advertising and sales efforts to gain brand recognition and ultimately drive revenue. Quintessential United Labs has also taken into consideration what we need to start our amusement park.

Concept Design: We have defined our concept clearly to attract investors and market to the public, which is how we are able to help our generation be better educated on STEM. Taking consideration about our different audiences is crucial in order for us to develop the concept. Our targeted audience is families and business workers.

Finding Money: Amusement parks are not cheap. For example, if we plan to have 1,000 visitors, we would need about $2 million. We most likely need to spend 3 to 5 percent of the start-up amount on improvements and upgrades.

Research and Study: Study what we will need for your project, the size of the buildings, and the mix of attractions and rides. It helps us make sure the vision for the park matches what the market needs and that the park will return a profit for us.

Location for a lifetime: We need a location where the zoning or land-use requirements will allow a theme park. There has to be sufficient parking space, an area for our resort, in addition to our rides. The roads and utilities must be able to handle a steady flow of visitors.

Rides: We can work with companies that will design a custom ride for you or those that resell used amusement rides. While we were researching, we learned that the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions includes lists of suppliers and vendors in its member directory.

We have conducted a survey to see what our three main types of guest would be and what their reason for visiting our resort and amusement park would be. We have also taken into consideration how there will be regulations and protocols for the safety of our employees and guests. A scanned version of the attachment is right below.

 Survey Results

The bar graph concludes the likely hood of the reason for our potential guests. The survey was conducted for 2 weeks and was created by our team.

Finance:

Financial plan is the most important part of any business plan. To make the financial plan we have soberly estimated the expenses of our project. As it is quite demanding one, for its start we need about $15 million. Of course, it is a big sum of money and we need an investor, who will provide us with it. We are going to find the investor in the USA on in Europe, because the commission is the most convenient for our business. We consider it to be 5% a year. Due to the calculations we need to return $18 million. After getting this sum ($15 million) the most interesting part will begin. We need to find out within what time we will break-even.

The break-even point.

To begin with, our amusement park will have several types of tickets. They are:

--- adult (from age 20 to 60) ticket on workdays - $50

--- junior (from 3  to 19) /senior (from age 61 to 100)  ticket on workdays - $ 40

--- adult ticket on weekends - $65

--- junior/senior ticket on weekends - $50

--- family ticket on workdays (2 adults and 2 children) - $80

--- family ticket on weekends - $ 90

For babies ( under 3 years old ) the entrance is free. If you want to visit the our spa center, you need to pay $10 on workdays and $12 on weekends. Basing on such price we can find out within what time we will break-even. We plan to work 200 days a year ( we have calculated the holidays and the days of winter in Russia). 144 days are workdays and 56 are weekdays. Than we calculated the average price of the tickets, it is approximately $62. After that we can find out how much money we will get if one person will visit our park every day (200 days). Within 200 days we will get $12400 (the average price ($62 * 200 days). We have made a table, which helps us to understand how much people we need a day to cover just our debt to the investor ($18 million). We divide $18 million on the sum of money we get within 200 days with different numbers of customers.

Finacial estimate
People a day Income a day,$ (thsd) Income within 200 days,$ (mln) How many years to pay off our debt ($18 mln)
100 6,2 1,24 14,5
250 15,5 3,1 5,8
500 31 6,2 3
750 46,5 9,3 2
1000 62 12,4 1,5

According to this calculations we see that the most suitable and likable attendance is 500 people a day. We will pay off our debt within 3 years. But it means that all money will go to the investor and we won't have money to operate our business. We have to add one extra year to be able to operate our business and give back money to the investor. So, we have finally defined the most likely break-even time. We need about 4 years. Beginning with the fifth year we will start to get the net profit.

The operating cost and expenses.

To count the operating cost first of all we need to understand what sum of money we are going to spend on salary. Here is a table for better understanding.

Salary $ (thsd) per month
Supervisor 5
Commersial director 2,5
Accountant 3
Head of sales department 1,5
Manager of sales department (x2) 2
Head of advertising department 1,5
PR-manager (x2) 2
Head of production department 1,2
Staff (x50) 40
Total 58,7

As we can see we have to spend $58.700 per months on salary. Than we can finally count the operating cost per month. We took into consideration the price of security service, cleaning company, medical service, rent, taxes and utilities.

Operating cost (1 month) $ (thsd) per month
Salary 58,7
Security service 1,666
Cleaning service 4,166
Medical service 0,833
Rent 20,833
Taxes 15
Utilites and insurance 26,666
Total 127,864

The operating cost for our park is $127.864 per month. To count the operating cost per one year we have to multiple some points on 7 ( due to the working months) and other point on 12 (rent, taxes, ect.)

Operating cost (1 year) $ (thsd)
Salary (x 7 months) 410,9
Security service (x 12 months) 19,992
Cleaning service (x 12 months) 49,992
Medical service (x 7 months) 5,831
Rent (x 12 months) 249,996
Taxes (x 12 months) 180
Utilites and insurance (x 12 months) 319,992
Total 1236,703

The operating cost of our park is $1.236.703 per year. Before the beginning of work we have to prepare everything for our visitors. Here is the range of necessary purchases.

Necessary purchases $ (mln)
Attractions 7
Spa centre 1,5
Covered constructions and infrastructure 0,5
Construction work 2
Project 0,9
Total 11,9

Than we add the operating cost per year to the cost of necessary purchases and get the sum of money that we will spend during the first year of our work. $1.236.703 + $11.900.000= $13.136.703. It means that we have some money left. It is called reserve of money and in our case the amount of money is $1.863.297 ($15.000.000 -- $13.136.703 = $1.863.297). This sum of money can be spent on reconstruction after disasters, compensation for accidents, upgrade of our park and as the payment to the investor in case of unprofitability of our park. We also want to say a few words about fixed and variable costs.

Fixed:

-- salary

-- taxes

-- utilities and insurance

-- rent

Variable:

-- seasonal services (for example snow removal -- winter; leaves removal -- autumn)

 Income and profit.

And finally it is high time to define how much money we are going to earn. Our main source of income will be selling tickets. We also plan to earn money on a hotel with the addition of conference and convention center, but we won't build it ourselves, because it will increase the expenses. We are going to cooperate with some hotels. For example, we can organize symposia or weeks of science or fundraisers. To take part in the symposium the company should pay $2000 for each of the participants. This price covers the living in a hotel, transfer and the two-day participation in the events of our park. Some part of the earned money we will spend on the hotel payment and the other part will belong to us. Everyone will have its income. (10 companies want to take part. 3 participants from each company are sent to the symposium. $2000*30 = $60.000 earning for one symposium. But we can have from 10 to 15 each season, thus we are going to earn $900.000, a half we pay for the hotel services. So our part is $450.000) Also we are going to provide a place for food points (some private cafes or restaurants). They will earn money and give some part to us. As it isn't our main business, we won't get a lot of money, but every earned sum is important for us. We are going to place advertisements on the territory of our park, sell souvenir production (cooperate with private traders) and gain money using vending machines.

Income $ (mln) per year
Selling tickets 6,2
Organization of symposia 0,45
Souvenirs 0,1
Advertisments on the territory of our park 0,2
Subletting for food points 0,2
Vending machines 0,02
Total 7,17

According to the previous calculations our park will break-even within 3-4 years. Beginning with the fifth year we will start to get the net profit.

Operating the business:

When it came to deciding what role each one of our team members would have, we really wanted to show how our characters would correlate or help us function our business. Just alone in the past 5 months, our team has worked together wonderfully and we were able to work together to achieve the same goal which we find is crucial for our business. The importance of teamwork at work is vital to the success of the company. Our team has developed systems that will allow us to complete tasks efficiently and quickly. This becomes helpful when our team from different departments work together. In order for our business/innovation to operate, we need what some people call “a whole village”, filled with diversity and different skills. Now, we have added a detailed description on what each one of us would take role of if our business would become reality.

Genesis Torrez

I have been a part of Miami Sunset’s hospitality and tourism program for two years now and it was the best thing to happen to me. Fortunately, I have been given the opportunity to be our HTMP/DECA President for our school. Throughout my experience with hospitality and tourism management, I have decided that after high school I will pursue a career in the hospitality/tourism industry so my skills would most likely benefit our resort. I would take the role of accomplishing guest’s needs and exceeding their expectations in any sort of traveling or hospitality management. Humbly, I would say I have the characteristics of a good leader and this is why. I find that an honest relationship based on trust and reliability makes our team a dream team and lets everyone know that their leader is always there for them which makes employees want to be there for their leader. A good leader will be able to demonstrate a unique type of creativity that can help their team push through any situation. Besides being a good leader, I am also in the Information technology academy so I would be able to offer technological support.

 Yamig Torres

My sophomore year, I got extremely lucky to be able to have been put Hospitality, Tourism, and JROTC. This is my second year in both programs and I must say they have helped me out. I am very outgoing and social, implementing these skills in “HTMP” has helped grow and meet new people in the industry. I’ve acquired very important skills from both programs. JROTC has showed me discipline and leadership, which I have used when it comes to making decisions. HTMP has not only grown my network but it has increased my knowledge in everything that goes from hotels, to food and beverage, to great customer service. With all this being said, the role I would like to take over is getting business partners to collaborate with and grow the company’s network and possibly help our business be exposed to new markets and ideas. I would most likely work with Public relations and ensure that our business has business partners.

 Anastasiia Sogina

I have good leadership skills and I am a responsible person. For me, there is no phrase "I'll do it tomorrow," because with such an excuse my productivity will be reduced to zero. I always try to do my best. I speak English fluently and I have good communication skills. I like to make new acquaintances. For me it is very important to move forward. Speaking about our business, in my opinion, I perfectly suit the role of the PR-manager. This profession implies constant communication with new people and work in the field of advertising and, frankly speaking, this is what attracts me. This profession will help me to improve my skills and to develop my individuality. I will dedicate my life to this work and that will help our business to prosper.

 Anastasiia Shakhnovich

Besides education I am busy with many things like projects or social activities. By the way, I like doing all this stuff because it helps me to upgrade my communication skills and get some useful knowledge in different spheres. However, I am also quite good at organizing events. I love people and often try to make something interesting and creative at my school or anywhere else. That’s why I would be able to organize different events and work in our park as an event-manager.

 Sofya Ebert

Working on the project is really interesting and valuable experience for me. My role in the project  is a creative one , as I am creative and imaginative myself. I enjoy drawing ,so it was very entertaining for me to do sketches, contriving the design and details of our park ,painting it on the paper. All this inspired me so much that it made me think of job of a designer, so I hope these qualities will be appropriate for my future career. That is why my job in the park would be a designer.

Impact

Quintessential United Labs is innovating something memorable internationally. Guests will always remember their experience at our resort and amusement park. Our app is an extra amenity that we know guests would appreciate and love that we truly take into consideration what everyone may need. Our business wants to do some things differently. We have seen and studied what some other companies/businesses have done wrong in the past or what they could do to better themselves. Quintessential United labs wants to affect and interact with our community. As our business grows through the years, we would like to hold fundraisers that would benefit our economy and our community most importantly. Our amusement park would demonstrate some core curriculums (STEM) to educate everyone and have our community understand what a crazy impact STEM has in our daily lives.
